Self-centeredness. Conceit. Boastfulness. Arrogance. Haughtiness. Rebellion. Hard-heartedness. Stiff-neckedness. Unrepentant. Puffed up. Easily offended. Sign seekers. Defensiveness. Faultfinding. Gossiping. Backbiting. Murmuring. Living beyond your means. Envying. Coveting. Withholding gratitude and praise that might lift another. Being unforgiving and jealous. Disobedience. Fear of men’s judgment. Selfishness. Self-conceit. Self-pity. Worldly self-fulfillment. Self-gratification. Self-seeking. Contention. Arguments. Fights. Unrighteous dominion. Generation gaps. Divorces. Spouse abuse. Riots. Disturbances. Enmity toward God. Enmity toward your fellowmen.
Are any of these things part of you? If so, you are not prepared to meet God.
All of these are rooted in pride (see “Beware of Pride”, Ezra Taft Benson, Ensign, May 1989) and Alma taught: “Behold, are ye stripped of pride? I say unto you, if ye are not ye are not prepared to meet God” (Alma 5:28).
I realize this is direct. But it is the truth. Good thing we have all of our lives to work on them.
The remedy is choosing to be humble. Not weak. Humble.
Always a good thing for me to go back and read this talk:
